The Ringmaster’s Wife, by Kristy CambronĀ

There is so much I want to say about this sweet story. I’m honestly not sure where to begin.. but before telling you about this book, I have to say that I personally wish I could have met Mable Ringling. She was truly an unforgettable lady of wisdom and class, and she left her mark everywhere she went.

The Ringmaster’s Wife is Mable Ringling’s story, well-researched and beautifully written. We meet Mable as a little girl with big dreams of tinkling pianos, far-off places, and (much like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz) finding her heart’s desire. As readers, we witness her kindness and genuineness to everyone she encounters.

Set in the Jazz Age, this book also gives us an insider’s view of the life of circus performer Rosamund and circus manager Colin. Through their eyes, we get to experience the spotlights and applause, the intimidation and drama, the weight of decisions and the hardships that come with constantly being on the road. Because their paths cross with Mable’s, Rosamund and Colin both find that life is forever changed in ways they could never have dreamt…

In their own ways, Mable, Rosamund, and Colin each must discover what it means to really live, to have the courage to take a leap of faith for a dream, and to be who they are beneath all facades.

If you’ve ever longed to chase what you felt like might be a crazy, worthless dream, you need to read this book. If you’ve ever been fascinated by the circus, you need to read this book. If you love historical fiction, you need to read this book. Basically.. no matter who you are and what your situation is, I can come up with reasons you need to read this book!

I’d describe this book as a freshly picked apple. It’s sweet, with maybe a little bit of tartness mixed in, crisp, fresh and unique, and just right.

Kristy Cambron is an imaginative writer who doesn’t shy away from the ugly. Rather, she excels in telling stories of courage, and love, and good triumphing over evil — the beautiful defeating the ugliness that so often comes in life.
